Step aside, Harvey, Irma_s coming Hurricane Irma is now a Category 5 storm, meaning the maximum sustained winds are over 157 MILES PER HOUR AND it looks like it_s heading to the States While the National Hurricane Center can_t be sure of its exact path, Irma is expected to travel through the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico, and hit southern Florida sometime Saturday An optimist would say the La Tuna wildfire, the biggest in L.A. history, has been put out. A pessimist would say the cinders of the fire that burned SEVEN THOUSAND ACRES of land this weekend could easily reignite. And the Los Angeles Fire Chief is saying a bit of both Fire operations will be continuing for some time, but the good news is that containment is rising and most evacuees have been able to return home Is it any wonder we love firemen? Of course, we know the effects of a natural disaster last far longer than the disaster itself. And if we forgot, Texas Governor Greg Abbott reminded us In a weekend interview, he estimated that recovery costs for the state in the wake of Hurricane Harvey will likely hit 180 BILLION dollars So far, the White House has asked Congress for a little under 8 billion, but Governor Abbott has framed that as a down-payment. Whitney, he also pointed out that over FIVE MILLION people were directly affected by Harvey, making it even bigger than KatrinaAnd now we have Irma on our doorstep.
